HOKUSAI / KORE-EDA
Life observed with relentless discretion
Dialogue between Roberto Recchioni and Antonio Mascoli on two great masters of Japan
On the occasion of the exhibition "Hokusai. The great master of Japanese art" and the release of the first masterpieces of Kore-eda Hirokazu in the retrospective "Reflections of the invisible", Arthemisia and BiM Distribuzione invite you to a talk between Recchioni and Mascoli on the gaze of two great masters.
Hirokazu Kore-eda films families with the same stubborn attention with which Hokusai drew markets, kitchens, and playing children.
In both these artists, there seems to be the belief that the everyday conceals more than it reveals. Their gaze is a posture that spans the centuries of Japanese visual culture, from the notebooks of hokusaian Manga to contemporary panels, where narration learns to breathe in the silence between one panel and the next. Speaking of Kore-eda then means speaking of an entire tradition that has made discretion its most radical style. This meeting attempts to trace that thread.
The meeting will be held in Italian.
Admission to the conference is free, subject to availability of seats.
