Mattatoio

The Mattatoio in Testaccio, built between 1888 and 1891 by Gioacchino Ersoch, is considered one of the most important industrial archaeology buildings in the city for the modernity and originality of its structures. The buildings, originally used for slaughtering and distributing meat to the city of Rome, now host various entities including the Faculty of Architecture of Roma Tre and the Academy of Fine Arts. A significant part of the Mattatoio is at the center of a redevelopment plan to create a hub for artistic and cultural research and production, with the aim of offering a contemporary image of the city of Rome, capturing its developments and stimulating its evolution. The Mattatoio aims to be a center of excellence for the production and public presentation of national and international research related to performing arts and their relationships with visual arts, as well as with scientific languages and knowledge related to architectural and urban design.
