Museum of Santa Maria Novella

The Museum of the Opera of Santa Maria Novella is located in Florence in the heart of the city and close to the central station.

The Basilica of Santa Maria Novella was built in the first half of the thirteenth century thanks to the architect Leon Battista Alberti. After the great restoration of the Basilica in 2000 and 2001 it was possible to create the Museum of the Opera of Santa Maria Novella whose   objective is to transmit, promote and enhance the works located within it .

The Basilica concentrates the works of Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Giotto, Masaccio, Michelangelo, Vasari, Ghirlandaio and many others in a single place. Some of the most important works are Masaccio's "Trinity", Giotto's "Crucifix", Brunelleschi's "Crucifix" . Of great value are the small side chapels , among the most important are certainly the Chapel of Filippo Strozzi, with frescoes by Filippino Lippi, and the Tornabuoni Chapel.

The Museum of the Opera of Santa Maria Novella includes the Green Cloister, the Cappellone degli Spagnoli, the Cloister of the Dead, the Cappella degli Ubriachi and the Refectory.
