The Archaeological Area of Sodo and Tomba di Camucia is located in Cortona. The archaeological area actively collaborates with the Museum of the Etruscan Academy and of the City of Cortona. The archaeological area includes the II mound of Sodo which is one of the three "melons", as the tumuli and Etruscans of Cortona are called. On the territory there are imposing funeral buildings from the Etruscan period called Meloni and Tanelle and Roman roads on the Cortonese mountain. About 17 tombs from different eras have been found: from the Etruscan age to the Roman republican and imperial age. Among the three Etruscan funerary monuments, the II del Sodo tumulus with a spectacular staircase decorated with sculptural groups and architectural elements of orientalizing style. The Etruscan finds found in the two tumuli are exhibited in the MAEC, the Etruscan Archaeological Museum of Cortona. Among the remains found there is a splendid Roman Villa of Ossia which is now being restored. The archaeological area is used for cycling and trekking routes to discover Etruscan archeology.
