The Civic Museum for Prehistory of Monte Cetona is located in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Comunale and illustrates the main stages in the history of human settlement in the Cetonese territory. The prehistoric events of the area begin in the Middle Paleolithic, but an intense settlement is recorded during the Bronze Age, especially in Belverde, on the eastern side of the mountain: this phase is witnessed by a rich archaeological documentation which constitutes the main nucleus of the museum .

The museum itinerary, organized in an educational form, exhibits the materials found with recent research methods, also illustrating the landscape evolution of the Cetonese area on the basis of geological and paleontological evidence.

The Belverde Archeodrome, located not far from the archaeological area of the same name, is an educational path created to complete and integrate the visit to the Museum and the Park. The settings, structures and artefacts reproduced are inspired by the two phases of prehistory best documented in this area: a part of a Bronze Age village has been reconstructed, with life-size huts and areas for craft activities, and a settlement in a cave of the middle Paleolithic. The two sectors are connected by an itinerary in the woods and along the rocky cliff overlooking the cavities of Belverde from which you can enjoy a wide view of the Valdichiana.
